2019 AEG Dams Symposium: Call for Abstracts

 

Symposium Theme
“The Changing Times of Engineering Geology at Dams and Levees”

The Dams Technical Working Group of the Association of Environmental and Engineering
Geologists (AEG) is currently accepting abstracts for presentations for this symposium that will
be a minimum of one-day and part of the 2019 AEG Annual Meeting. The presentations for the
2019 AEG Annual Meeting will be held in stunning and vibrant city of Asheville, North Carolina
from September 17-22, 2019. Potential topics include (but are not limited to):

• Impacts of climate change on dams (structure, spillway capacity, monitoring, etc)
• Reservoir operations under climate change;
• Storage capacity options to mitigate risk due to extreme weather;
• Effects of climate change & dam construction on riverine ecosystems;
• Environmental impacts of dams & reservoirs;
• Risk Analysis/Risk Informed Decision making related to geology;
• Geologic impacts to dam safety and dam design;
• North Carolina Dam Safety Practice;
• Dam safety evaluations;
• Foundation improvements;
• Investigation techniques and instrumentation;
• Lessons learned from notable case histories;
• Special geologic considerations for off stream reservoirs;
• Landslide impacts on dams;
• Geologic concerns for levee evaluation and design;

This will be the twelfth dams symposium held at an AEG annual meeting. The symposium has
historically been one to two and a half days of exciting and relevant presentations about dams
and their foundations.

Abstracts should be submitted by May 1, 2019 and need to follow the criteria on page 2, however, abstracts should ALSO be submitted via e-mail to: Visty P. Dalal, at visty.dalal@maryland.gov; and Gary Rogers at grogers@schnabel-eng.com.

Abstract submissions will be reviewed and selected for presentation at the conference by the Dams Technical Working Group. Notification of acceptance/rejection will be provided via email by June 1, 2019.
