Greetings Engineering and Environmental Geologists of Northern California,

We are excited to formally announce the upcoming 2019 Geo Symposium and Field Expo on March 29 and 30, 2019! The theme for this conference is "A Geo-Resilient Sacramento" with a focus on Engineering Geology, Seismology, and Geotechnical Engineering.  This conference will be held in Sacramento, California at the Lions Gate Hotel in McClellan Park.  Activities will include:

  • Keynote Speakers
  • Field Expo to include vendor demonstrations and discussions with the experts.
  • Career Fair and Networking Event
  • Poster Sessions and Oral Presentations on Engineering Geology, Seismology, and Geotechnical Engineering
  • And more!

This is also our first call for abstracts for oral presentations and poster sessions. Plenty of opportunities are also available for vendors and sponsors. 


Call for Abstracts for Oral Presentation/Poster Session


 The 2019 Geo Symposium and Field Expo in Sacramento is developing a program to include short presentations on topics of interest within the areas of Engineering Geology and Geotechnical Engineering.  The organizing committee is issuing this call for abstracts for those interested in participating in this program as presenters.  Abstracts shall be submitted no later than January 21, 2019.  Abstracts should be no more than 500 words in length.  The selection committee will review abstracts and notify presenters no later than February 10, 2019 of acceptance.  Topics of interest for the conference may include topics related to engineering geology, seismology, or geotechnical engineering with topics of especial interest including:

  • Landslides and Engineered Slopes/Embankments
  • Wildfire Effects
  • Water Storage/Groundwater Sustainability
  • Earthquake Hazard in Central Valley
  • Case Histories/Lessons Learned
  • Site Characterization
  • Difficult Soil Conditions (Expansive Soils, Collapsible Soils, etc.)
  • Contaminant Hydrogeology
  • Remediation Methods
  • Dams and
  • Engineering and Geologic Modeling

Selected abstracts will be assigned to participate in either a poster session or oral presentation. Posters will be 4 ft by 6 ft maximum.  Oral presentations will be 10 to 15 minutes in length.  Selected abstracts will receive a ten percent discount on conference fees for the presenting author.


Presentations that will advance the state of the practice or provide practical insight into these topics will receive preference. Students and Young Professional presentations can be identified on submission and may receive preferential assignment to a young professional session.


Submit abstracts to with the subject line "2019 Geo Symposium and Field Expo ABSTRACT SUBMISSION".  Questions or comments can be directed to Alexander D. Wright by email at  The participating authors and author affiliations shall be identified in the body of the email along with the abstract title.  The presenting author and presenting author's contact information shall also be provided in the email.  Abstracts shall be attached as a Microsoft word document. Abstracts shall be submitted in English and shall be no more than 500 words max.
