Background on the McEllhiney Lecture Series
Annually, a panel of groundwater contractors invites an outstanding groundwater professional to share his or her insights and work experiences with the industry. Individuals may nominate themselves or others they believe to be qualified as an NGWREF McEllhiney Distinguished Lecturer.

Michael "Mike" Schnieders, PG, PH-GW Biography
Mike Schnieders is a professional geologist and the principle hydrogeologist for Water Systems Engineering in Ottawa, Kansas. Mike's work involves water resource characterization and consulting on well rehabilitation projects. Mike and WSE's work crosses numerous disciplines and fields, involving geology, chemistry, microbiology, water resource and watershed management, corrosion control, and water system management Mike has served on numerous state and national training programs focusing on rehabilitation and maintenance of water wells and groundwater systems, authored numerous articles on well ownership for the Water Well Journal and Opflow, and co-authored the 2016 book "Operational Stage of The Well; Evaluating the Forms of Water Well Deterioration and Developing corrective Actions".

Abstract: Defining the Operational Age of a Well: Predicting Maintenance Issues in Advance of Failure
Discusses a method devised to better define where a well is in its relationship to its functional lifecycle as well as identify when rehabilitation needs to be done to ensure a long life and reduce operational costs during this presentation. Wells, depending on their environment, will deteriorate at varying rates based on many factors including well design, hydrogeology, operational history, water chemistry, microbiology, rehabilitation history, and well usage.
