ProfessionOn October 23, 2009, the California Board for Geologists and Geophysicists (CABGG) will cease to exist due to a bill that was approved in July. Although the board was self-funded, the bill was passed as part of budget package reportedly aimed at cutting costs. Administering licensure examinations for geologists, vetting of applications and acting on complaints against licensees will now be under the direction of the Board for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors (BPELS). There are currently no provisions for BPELS to have geologists on the board or how the transfer will take place. Due to the lack of an independent board to license geologists and provide the enforcement necessary to protect the public health, safety and welfare as well as protection of property and environment, an injunction is going to be filed by the California Association of Professional Geologists (CAPG) to stop this action. Financial contributions can be sent to the AEGSC Political Action Fund, 1772-J, East Avenida De Los Arboles, PMB#304, Thousand Oaks, CA 91362 to support this action. Additional information regarding the CABGG can be found below or at www.aegsc.org, so please visit to learn more and stay tuned for further developments.
