About the Profession

Engineering Geology, Environmental Geology, and Hydrogeology are fields of applied geology that study the earth, the movement of groundwater and how we as human beings modify the earth for our use and convenience. Understanding soil, rock and groundwater can help people live in harmony with the geologic environment and repair problems when we come in conflict with the earth. Engineering and Environmental Geologists and Hydrogeologists are the professionals who provide the expertise to investigate, understand and interpret the earth for people’s benefit and understanding. These disciplines often have overlapping fields. The area of practice discussions provide descriptions of these areas of practice and their importance to human health and safety.
