Why You Should Join AEG

Why should you join AEG while you are still a student?
Answer: to help you prepare for and land the job you really want.

When looking for a new job or career advancement, you should first figure out where you want to go, and then prepare yourself to go there. Being a student member of AEG helps you do both.

AEG is the leader in applied geology. AEG publications, web site, and meetings provide extensive information about the types of work being done in environmental and engineering geology and hydrogeology. As a student member, you can learn about these areas of practice and the wide variety of job types and career opportunities, enabling you to chart your desired career path.

Preparing to pursue your chosen path has two components: gaining the knowledge needed to perform in your chosen field, and finding the right job and company fit for you. AEG publications and meetings offer an abundance of learning opportunities about real world geology that will supplement your coursework and better prepare you for becoming a practicing geologist. And most importantly, the networking opportunities of meeting and interacting with AEG professional members can help you find a job. Joining one of the AEG student chapters (or starting a chapter in your school) is another great opportunity for learning and networking. Student chapters invite speakers, conduct field trips, and interact with AEG professional members at the Section level.

The AEG Foundation offers scholarships to college and university students:
    -Marliave Scholarship
    -Tilford Field Studies Scholarship
    -Stout Scholarship

Attending the AEG Annual Meeting is a great opportunity for learning and networking. By volunteering to work at the meeting, you can get reduced rates on meeting fees.

You get all these benefits at a very low cost. Annual dues for a full time student enrolled in the geosciences or a related field in engineering are only $25.00. Proof of full time enrollment is required.

An additional benefit is a discount on professional level annual dues when you transfer from student to regular membership. For the first three years as a regular member, you pay only $75.00 per year.
