AEG/HAGS February Meeting
February 11, 2016
MEETING TOPIC: Mapping the Source: The Challenges of Protecting Pennsylvania's Unconventional Springs
Presented by: Alfred Guiseppe, P.G. - SSM Group, Inc.
Groundwater springs are used as a reliable and relatively inexpensive source of drinking water, but can be more susceptible to water quality issues compared to wells, and require diligent source water protection efforts. This presentation will highlight several “unconventional” springs (Findley Spring, Somerset County; Cool Spring, Cumberland County; & Schantz Spring, Lehigh County) which require an even greater effort relating to their respective delineation of recharge areas, additional empirical data, and a greater understanding of their controlling geologic setting for their proper management and protection.
A graduate of Millersville University of Pennsylvania and the University of Wyoming, Mr. Guiseppe is the Director of the Water Supply Development and Protection Group and the GIS Manager at SSM. Overseeing a staff of environmental scientists, Mr. Guiseppe manages various water resources-related projects including groundwater supply development, watershed management and source water protection. In addition, Mr. Guiseppe is responsible for the management and development of geologic and hydrogeologic modeling capabilities including regional groundwater flow and contaminant fate and transport modeling.
The meeting will be held at GTS Technologies 441 Friendship Road Harrisburg, PA (near Bass Pro Shops). Dinner (4:45 – 6:15) will be at Fiesta Mexico - 3957 Paxton Street, Harrisburg, PA 17111 (between Ruby Tuesday and the Nissan dealership).
RSVP for dinner & meeting no later than noon Tuesday, February 9th to Amy Randolph.
